An experienced hematologist and oncologist, Kenneth D. Nahum, DO, treats patients at Regional Cancer Care Associates, LLC, in Howell, New Jersey, where he has served since 2012. Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Kenneth D. Nahum has lent his support to organizations such as JDRF, a nonprofit formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation that is committed to finding new treatments, and eventually a cure, for juvenile type-1 diabetes.
Earlier this year, JDRF joined with the American Diabetes Association and the The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to provide funding for groundbreaking research at the University of Florida that will examine the quality and availability of insulin at retail pharmacy locations nationwide. The one-year study will be based on a smaller research project published in 2017 in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology that showed major inconsistencies with the quality and amount of insulin available at these pharmacies.
The same investigator who led that study will serve as the principal investigator for this more expansive research project. Researchers will study eight major formulations of insulin in five different areas of the United States. They will use several different testing methods to determine how powerful the insulin truly is compared to how it’s being touted. Results are expected for publication in 2019.
